Just a quickie to pass on some news and a few photos.
This is likely to be my penultimate post as I'm heading home a little earlier than planned. Rather unexpectedly, I have been offered a job in London. It is too good an opportunity to pass up and despite reservations about leaving Ramallah after such a short time, with my current project not quite finished, I will be packing my bag and flying home at the end of the month.
Needless to say I am very excited about seeing all my friends and family (especially my little niece) and I am looking forward to the challenge of a new job. However, my feelings are a little mixed. (No surprise there, then). There is the nagging sensation of leaving a job half done here. I had my sights set on developing the Google Earth project further, now it is all I can do to finish what I have been contracted to do before I leave.
In spite of this, end-date fever has started to set in so I am doing my best to acknowledge what I will miss instead of just counting down the days to my departure. As an incurable sufferer of 'grass is always greener' syndrome, I usually hanker after change and fail to appreciate a good thing when I have it.
I know I will miss my 5 minute walking commute when I'm nose-deep in a sweaty London tube. I'm already missing my apartment here (see photo below) as I struggle to find somewhere half the size, twice the price and ten times further from work in London. And, of course, I am going to miss the people, whose warmth and generosity consistently bely their circumstances, sometimes quite the reverse of people at home.
Anyway, I promised a quickie and this is starting to resemble a second date. To sum up, I am coming home and am simultaneously delighted and disappointed. Go figure.
I'll finish off with a few photos of Ramallah. Wandsworth here I come...oh dear.
